Research

Distinguished in its early years as the site of major scientific breakthroughs in Wilson's disease, congenital hepatic disorders, cardiac arrhythmias and hemoglobinopathies, the Department is now home to a host of cutting-edge research centers, among them:

  • a liver research and training center;
  • a diabetes center;
  • a cardiovascular research center; and
  • a sickle cell center

In addition, nationally recognized investigative teams in molecular cardiology, cardiac arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, vascular biology, thyroid disease, nephrology, oncology, rheumatology and immunology, microbiology, and human genetics currently work and teach in the Department of Medicine.
