Emergency Services

The Emergency Department (ED) at Montefiore Medical Center is recognized for its success in handling large volumes of emergency care for all aspects of acute illness and injury, including dental and psychiatric emergencies. We are one of the top five busiest emergency departments in the U.S. and the most visited in the state of New York. Drawing approximately 275,000 visits from adult patients each year from across the region, our dedication to providing excellent emergency services to the surrounding community is unsurpassed. Every individual receives professional, compassionate care, regardless of their ability to pay. Family members are welcome at all times.

Montefiore Medical Center has three adult Emergency Department facilities and also operates a Pediatric Emergency Department at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. Urgent care services are provided at Montefiore Medical Group Bronx East.

When coming to the ED please bring:

  • X-rays or lab test results from other hospitals or clinics relating to your child's current illness (if available)
  • Your child's immunization history
  • Your child's regular physician's name and phone number
  • Information about any chronic illness or condition that your child may have.

Board Certified Emergency and Critical Care Specialists

Our ED facilities are staffed with experienced board certified physicians and highly qualified nurses and medical experts trained in the fields of emergency and critical care medicine. Every ED team is supported by the full resources and facilities of Montefiore Medical Center.

Chest Pain Specialists

Experts in the Chest Pain Evaluation Unit provide a rapid diagnosis for all patients complaining of chest pain and identify those with life-threatening cardiac conditions. Our exceptional cardiac units ensure that life-saving treatment is immediately available when needed.

FastTrack Evaluation

Each patient who enters the ED receives an initial evaluation. Those with less serious conditions are placed on the Montefiore ED FastTrack. This innovative program for emergency care helps to reduce waiting time for patients with non-life threatening conditions.
