For Professionals
Care Centers of Excellence
The nurses at Montefiore are an integral part of our medical teams and provide exceptional care to all patients and their families. These dedicated professionals practice in the operating room, pediatric acute care unit and ambulatory surgery services on Montefiore's campuses.
Surgical Services
Montefiore's Surgical Services Care Center is using exciting new technologies in the liver tumor, kidney and liver transplant, bariatric, and minimally invasive surgery programs.
Our onsite surgical nursing program offers continuing education credits and opportunities to develop surgical skills in many specialty areas, such as the Heart and Vascular Center.
We encourage our highly skilled pre-, intra- and post-operative nurses to continually develop their skills in the latest clinical procedures.
Lubin Rehabilitation Center at Jack D. Weiler Hospital
Registered nurses, nurses' aides, a case manager and support staff provide care to patients who require acute rehabilitation following surgery, a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), knee or open-heart surgery, or who have been referred from other hospitals.
This collaborative service integrates nursing care with physical, occupational and speech therapy. Patient assessment, based on individual comprehensive care plans, includes the involvement of the family or significant caregiver. Nurses also help educate patients to restore maximum independent function, self-direct rehabilitation and improve quality of life.
Medical Center Care
Our nurses work in a variety of specialty services, including:
- General medicine
- Critical care
- Dialysis
- Family medicine
- Gerontology
- HIV/AIDS
- Oncology
They are recognized as pivotal members of an interdisciplinary team that manages the care of patients of the Bronx and Westchester County.
Montefiore's Hospice and Palliative Care programs support and advocate for patients and families during the transition from the aggressive treatment phase to the end-of-life phase.
Our nursing professionals continually strive to reach the highest levels of personal performance, teamwork and mutual respect. High-quality, seamlessly coordinated care is delivered across the continuum.
Women's and Children Care Center
Women are the gatekeepers of their families, and when you take care of a woman, you help care for her family.
At Montefiore, nursing incorporates the full spectrum of care for women at every stage of their lives. Our nurses provide expertise in all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, including gynecologic oncology to pre- and post-menopausal care.
Pediatric nursing addresses the diverse needs, both culturally and with respect to health care, of children ranging from infants through adolescents.
The nursing team of The Children's Hospital at Montefiore seeks nursing professionals who recognize the importance of forming partnerships with families when caring for children. We also emphasize patient education to promote wellness to women and families.
Heart Center
The Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care has a team of highly skilled cardiovascular nurses who are dedicated to excellence in patient care. Our cardiovascular nurses' expertise includes understanding of the most current developments in cardiovascular intervention, electrophysiology studies, coronary care, telemetry services and cardiothoracic surgery. They also work in the most technologically advanced cardiac catheterization laboratories.
Because Montefiore provides multidisciplinary care to our heart and vascular patients, our nurses have many opportunities to expand their skills. The clinical expertise of cardiothoracic nurses is augmented by active clinical research and transplant programs. Research nurses participate in cutting-edge clinical trials, including studies on thrombolis in myocardial infarction, platelet receptor inhibition in ischaemic syndrome management, and antiarrhythmics versus implantable defibrillators, among others.
Our nurses also care for patients undergoing heart transplants.
Clinical Services
Emergency Services
About 80,000 patients are treated annually in Emergency Services at Montefiore's Moses Division, while Einstein Hospital has an annual census of 37,000 patient visits. Moses is a Level II 911 Certified Center; an application for 911 status is under way for the Einstein Hospital. Approximately 200 RNs, LPNs, nurses' aides and technicians work at Montefiore's Emergency Services Department.
Montefiore nurses provide high-level emergency care aimed at exceeding our patients' and their families' expectations. Our nurses serve as patient advocates and provide patient education to those released from emergency services to return home.
