Hematology – Research and Clinical Trials – New York City – Montefiore Medical Center

The groundbreaking investigations conducted by Montefiore Medical Center's award-winning hematologists result in a better quality of life for those with blood disorders.

Montefiore is one of the major contributors to the study of sickle cell anemia. Our research focuses on the genetics and epigenetics of sickle cell anemia, the vascular effects of the sickle red cell and the particular characteristics of the sickle stem cell.

Clinical research studies on the older sickle cell patient and on sickle cell complications, like acute chest syndrome and thrombosis, complement the basic science work. We continue to investigate sickle-cell disease through genetic mapping, microvascular studies and research.

Our research team also studies the effectiveness of agents (also known as "bridging therapy") for optimally managing patients with thrombotic events.
