Neuroanesthesia Fellowship Program

Introduction

The Division of Neuroanesthesiology at Montefiore Medical Center is pleased to offer a non-ACGME accredited one-year Neuroanesthesiology Fellowship. We are seeking a qualified candidate with exceptional clinical skills and a special interest in Neuroanesthesia. During the fellowship year, the candidate will become an expert in managing adult neurosurgical procedures in the operating room and angiography suite. Montefiore Medical Center is the teaching hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and we treat patients undergoing a wide spectrum of neurological procedures and surgeries with the exception of trauma cases. The fellowship program also provides the opportunity for the fellow to develop skills in treating pediatric patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures.

Clinical Experience

At Montefiore Medical Center, we treat more than 1,600 patients undergoing elective and emergency neurosurgical procedures annually. Montefiore Einstein is home to a Stroke Center of Excellence, and we provide acute thrombectomy care for a large system of hospitals in New York City and its surrounding areas. Examples of neuroanesthesia cases include adult and pediatric vascular, tumor, spine, and functional awake craniotomy surgeries as well as pediatric craniofacial remodeling.

The fellowship year includes rotations in Intraoperative Neuromonitoring and Neuroradiology. We also offer elective time for the fellow to treat patients in Neurocritical Care. The fellow has the opportunity to participate in clinical research, contribute to weekly academic activities, and to teach and mentor residents and medical students.

Educational Experience

In addition to Department of Anesthesiology didactics, the fellow will participate in interdisciplinary lectures with the departments of Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, and Stroke and Epilepsy Neurology, as well as interprofessional case conferences, didactic lectures, and quality improvement review sessions. The fellow will also attend monthly interdisciplinary Intra-Arterial Stroke management meetings. The fellow will plan and lead a weekly Journal Club for residents rotating in Neuroanesthesia, develop and conduct a research project, and attend two national Neuroanesthesia or Neurocritical Care meetings. Our attending anesthesiologists provide research support and mentorship for our fellows, and we encourage fellows to participate in conferences at the local and national levels.

We are seeking a talented clinician who has a strong interest in Neuroanesthesia and is committed to excellent patient care, teaching, and scholarly activities. Candidates should demonstrate effective collaborative work in a multidisciplinary team environment with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
