He then had further training in fetal surgery in France and Belgium. His clinical practice focus in the last 14 years has been in the field of Fetal Medicine.
Dr. Dar’s research accomplishments have included studying the fertility in 15-lipo-oxygenase knock-out mice, mapping the gene for X-Linked Corneal Dermoids, microarray analysis of placentas from fetuses with Down’s syndrome and most recently, developing a sonographic method for early prediction of preeclampsia and evaluating free fetal DNA in maternal blood. Dr. Dar has also participated in several large multicenter studies including the FASTER, Prochieve and prenatal arrayCGH studies. Dr. Dar is in charge of medical training for medical school students, OBGYN and radiology residents and Maternal Fetal Medicine and Genetics fellows in prenatal ultrasound and Fetal Medicine. As the director of the Division of Fetal Medicine, Dr. Dar commenced a universal screening program for aneuploidy for pregnant women in the Bronx.
In the last two years he has served on a national committee for quality assurance for this aneuploidy screening (NTQR). In addition, he formed and moderates the Montefiore Medical Center multispecialty fetal team which convenes twice a month to discuss and plan therapies for anomalous fetuses in a CME accredited conference. In the last two year Dr Dar was engaged in establishing the fetal surgery program at Montefiore and together with his team performed numerous and diverse in-utero fetal surgeries.
