Dr. Cobelli is a recognized expert in the field of orthopaedic adult reconstructive surgery. His clinical practice focuses on knee and hip replacements. His current research is on the causes of osteolysis, a major reason for the premature failure of joint replacement surgery.

Biography

Dr. Cobelli earned his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. He completed an internship at Geisinger Medical Center and completed training in orthopaedic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1983 after a term of service in the U.S. Public Health Service. He also completed a fellowship at the University of Washington at Seattle.

Dr. Cobelli has been an integral part of Montefiore’s surgical staff for most of his professional medical career. He first came to Montefiore for residency training in orthopaedic surgery and is now the Chairman and Professor of Orthopeadic Surgery at Montefiore and Einstein. Dr Cobelli is a well recognized expert in the field of Joint Reconstruction of the Hip and Knee. He has also developed a research laboratory at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and is an expert on the role of the immune system in the failure of joint replacements.

Dr. Cobelli is an active member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Association (Ortho Surgery "Honor" society), and Orthopaedic Trauma Association Charter Member. He is also a police surgeon and consistently recognized as a Best Doctor by New York Magazine, Castle Connolly and New York Times Magazine.
