“The Charlop Gardens” named at PS 55 for Montefiore School Health Program community activist New York City (May 16) -- “The Meg Charlop Gardens” was dedicated today in honor of former Director, Community Health of the Montefiore School Health Program (MSHP), Megan F. Charlop. Students from PS 55 planted seeds for the vegetable Teaching Garden, a national project of the American Heart Association and HealthFirst. The new garden was unveiled in celebration of Megan Charlop’s life and her tireless advocacy for making an impact on the lives of the children of the borough. Megan Charlop died tragically two years ago in an accident while riding her bicycle to work. Her untimely death left colleagues and friends with the challenge of continuing her work at the Montefiore School Health Program where she created a Community Health Division that offered numerous health nutrition and exercise programs for more than 23,000 students at 19 school locations.
