Event Will be Held Sunday, May 3 at Orchard Beach 

NEW YORK CITY, NY (April 21, 2009) - The March of Dimes New York Division announced today it will launch the first-ever March for Babies® in the Bronx. With Montefiore Medical Center as the platinum sponsor for the March for Babies® event, the Bronx joins the boroughs of Manhattan, Staten Island and Queens as sites of the March of Dimes largest annual fundraising event.

March for Babies® takes place on Sunday, May 3 at Orchard Beach-Stage Pavilion. Check-in opens at 8 am and the walk begins at 9:30 am. (Buses from Pelham Bay Train station depart every 10 minutes beginning at 8 am.)

Now in its 39th year, the March of Dimes walk was the first in the country, and last year raised nearly $110 million nationally to support programs of research advocacy, community programs and education. Last November, March of Dimes and Montefiore collaborated on the launch of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Family Support Program, designed to provide materials and support to make the NICU experience more manageable for families.Montefiore has the most comprehensive array of women's health services in New York, including obstetrical services, a neonatal intensive care unit and specialty programs for women with high-risk pregnancies.

March for Babies® national sponsors are Kmart, CIGNA, Farmers, FedEx, Famous Footwear, Liberty Tax Services, Continental Airlines, Ther-Rx, First Response and Mead Johnson Nutritionals. Local sponsor is Montefiore Medical Center. Media partners are WCBS-TV and WCBS FM 101.1.
