Specialized Care of a Montefiore Liver Specialist Now Available in Scarsdale

Scarsdale, NY (September 12, 2011) - Montefiore Medical Center's Liver Disease and Transplantation Program is extending its presence into Westchester County at a new location in Scarsdale, 495 Central Park Ave. Headed by Paul J. Gaglio, MD, Medical Director of the Liver Transplantation Program at Montefiore and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, this office provides patients the convenience of seeing a Montefiore liver specialist close to home.

Providers are able to perform evaluation, diagnosis and treatment at the new office, enabling patients to complete all necessary testing at that location. Patients with advanced disease will transfer to the Montefiore Einstein Center for Transplantation in the Bronx.

"The Center's advanced therapeutic approaches and treatments include the latest technology for diagnosing liver disease, genetic testing for fatty liver disease and novel hepatitis C medications," said Dr. Gaglio. "Through a multidisciplinary approach, we are on the front lines of providing new treatments and are able to manage a vast array of patients with liver disease who in the past weren't treatable."

Dr. Gaglio joined Montefiore to assist in establishing the Liver Disease and Transplantation Program, which began in 2007. Its team includes specialists in hepatology, oncology, surgery, radiology, psychiatry, pediatric gastroenterology, family medicine and translational research. To date, its seven surgeons have performed over 40 transplants.

Dr. Gaglio is Professor of Clinical Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He received his medical degree from UMDNJ New Jersey Medical School and is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. Previously, he was with the Tulane University School of Medicine and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons as the Medical Director for Liver Transplantation. Dr. Gaglio is a member of the New York Consortium for Liver Transplantation's Board of Directors and Chair of its Clinical Policies Committee. In 2009 and 2010 he was listed as one of the "Best Doctors in America" at www.bestdoctors.com.
