Relationship to Improve Timely Access to Care for Pediatric Patients Impacted by Diseases of the Head and Neck

Tarrytown, NY (September 23, 2014)ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP (ENTA), the largest ear, nose, throat, allergy, and audiology practice in the country, and Montefiore Medical Center, the University Hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, today announced an affiliation to help improve access to comprehensive care for pediatric patients impacted by diseases and disorders of the ears, nose, throat (ENT), head, and neck. The agreement will allow seamless transitions of medical information and advanced care for patients throughout their continuum of care.

“By working closely with leading community providers like ENT and Allergy Associates, we can greatly improve access to superior services that are convenient for the thousands of young people impacted by head, neck and ENT disorders,” said Marvin Fried, MD, University Chairman, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Montefiore Medical Center and Einstein. “We are excited to have the opportunity to broaden the range of interventions that address our patients’ needs. This allows Montefiore to provide local residents with the best care possible.”

Through the new affiliation, pediatric patients in the Bronx and Hudson Valley will benefit from newly created protocols that begin with local access to health screenings at ENTA. Patients who are found to need hospital care will be quickly and seamlessly transferred to Montefiore within 24 to 48 hours. Post hospital stay, coordinated care teams will continue treatments and additional screenings, as needed.

“Montefiore is one of the most well-known and highly regarded medical centers in the Tri-State area,” observed Robert Green, MD, President of ENT and Allergy Associates. “Our mission at ENTA focuses on providing the finest care possible to our patients. Combining our assets with those of Montefiore’s will certainly yield greater pediatric medical excellence in the Bronx and the Hudson Valley.”

The Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery for children --has existed at Montefiore for more than 30 years and offers treatment for all ear, nose, and throat conditions. The division collaborates with pediatric subspecialists to treat tumors and masses in the head and neck region, and perform airway surgery and cochlear implantation.

“I already send my pediatric patients who need hospital care to Montefiore”, noted Stanley Yankelowitz, MD, fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist and partner at ENTA’s Bronx office, “and now having this official affiliation will certainly make that transfer more convenient, more accessible, and more beneficial to those patients and their overall care. I couldn’t be more pleased!”

Frank Shechtman, MD, otolaryngology partner at ENTA’s White Plains office, commented, “The children and families of the Hudson Valley will be the big winners here, because we will now be able to move them quickly and comprehensively from our offices to Montefiore when tertiary care is needed”.

Similar praise was offered by Jeffrey Jablon, MD, otolaryngology partner at ENTA’s Purchase and New Rochelle offices.  He stated “I know our colleagues at Montefiore to be superb surgeons, and I am certain that my pediatric patients will benefit greatly from our enhanced and streamlined access to them and their services”.  Matthew Kates, MD, fellow New Rochelle otolaryngology partner, remarked, “I have long believed that the combination of community and academic medicine should be served up in a smooth and unified way. With our new agreement with Montefiore, I can easily see this coming to fruition, for the absolute benefit of my deserving pediatric patients.”

Among ENTA’s 40 clinical sites, located throughout New York and New Jersey, are six offices situated within proximity to Montefiore—at 1200 Waters Place in the Bronx, as well as in Tuckahoe, White Plains, Purchase, Yonkers, and New Rochelle. Montefiore consists of six hospitals and provides primary and specialty care through a network of more than 150 locations across the region.
