Midwifery

Midwifery at Montefiore offers well woman health services and prenatal care at several sites within the Montefiore system, and provides birth services at the Jack D. Weiler Hospital.

In New York State, midwives are licensed to manage independently normal pregnancies, childbirth, and non-complex gynecologic concerns and to secure consultation, collaboration, or referral for women with more complex findings. At Montefiore, midwives are backed up by departmental attending physicians.

Moses Primary Care

The Primary Care Program at the Moses Campus provides prenatal and postpartum care as well as limited gynecologic services to adolescent and adult women. Following delivery, each woman is offered continuing care with a pediatrician or internist at Montefiore. The program also provides case management services for the adolescents.

Medical back-up and delivery services, which occur at the Weiler Hospital, are provided by the obstetrician/gynecologists of the department.

This program accepts a large number of HMO and commercial plans, Medicaid, and offers a sliding fee scale for those without insurance.

Comprehensive Family Care Center-(CFCC)

The CFCC has provided midwifery care for more than 22 years.

Midwives at our new facility provide birth services at Weiler Hospital, and care for a large number of women seeking annual gynecologic examinations, family planning services, or evaluation and treatment for a number of minor gynecologic concerns. They are backed up by obstetricians and gynecologists who are members of the full-time Faculty Practice.

The CFCC accepts a large number of HMO and commercial plans, Medicaid, and offers a sliding fee scale for those without insurance. Obstetrical patients without insurance coverage, including those who might not be eligible for Medicaid, are assisted in obtaining Prenatal Care Assistance Program (PCAP) funds to pay for their obstetrical care.

Faculty Practice Midwifery

Private practice midwifery is offered by a group of midwives as part of the departmental Faculty Practice.

Based at the Institute for Women's Health, Genetics and Human Reproduction in the Bronx, the group attends births at the Weiler Hospital. They also provide care for a large number of women seeking annual gynecologic examinations, family planning services, or evaluation and treatment for a number of minor gynecologic concerns.

They are backed up by obstetricians and gynecologists who are members of the full-time Faculty Practice, and accept most HMO and commercial insurance plans.
