Division of General Obstetrics & Gynecology

General obstetrics and gynecology constitute the majority of visits to departmental clinical sites. Women generally self-refer to these providers and receive a wide range of basic reproductive care services, including pregnancy care for low or moderate risk pregnancies, breast and pelvic examinations, contraceptive management, and diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of gynecologic conditions. Some women will use these providers for first level care in areas where specialty programs also exist, such as menopausal care or infertility work-ups.

Gynecologists from the generalist practice also offer office procedures for evaluation and treatment of a variety of gynecologic conditions. In addition to colposcopy, cryotherapy, laser and LEEP procedures to assess and treat conditions causing abnormal Pap smear findings, the practice offers office hysteroscopy, which permits outpatient diagnosis and treatment of some problems of the lining of the uterus. The ready availability of sonographic evaluation at our major site greatly enhances the diagnostic capabilities of our providers.

The generalists in obstetrics and gynecology from the backbone of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women's Health. They are responsible for the primary obstetric and gynecologic care for women and see patients at multiple sites throughout the Bronx and Westchester.

The division's Women's Group offers women the opportunity to see one physician for outpatient care, with in-hospital coverage shared by a small group of other women physician colleagues. There are also generalists with special expertise in laparoscopic surgery, hysteroscopy, colposcopy, laser surgery and pelvic surgery.

The midwifery practice works in close collaboration with the generalists and subspecialists as needed.
