Montefiore Medical Center's shoulder surgeons lead an unparalleled team of practitioners who combine clinical orthopaedic surgery, rehabilitative sports medicine, physical and occupational therapy, and basic science research to provide the most advanced treatment to our patients with shoulder disorders. Patients of all ages with the entire gamut of shoulder problems, such as sprains, dislocations, and fractures, to arthritis and rotator cuff tears, are seen daily and rapidly returned to full shoulder health. Each patient receives specialized attention and draws from the vast expertise of our extraordinary team of three full-time shoulder surgeons, physicians, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and physical therapists, who determine the best possible individualized treatment. Many of our patients are able to take advantage of non-invasive management of their individual conditions, such as transcutaneous electrical neuromuscular stimulation and physical rehabilitation using isokinetic machines for strengthening, but for others, surgery may be the most effective solution.
When operative treatment is warranted, the procedures performed at Montefiore for shoulder disorders are state-of-the-art. Several of these procedures involve minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, which results in less postoperative pain and a faster recuperation, versus traditional open surgery. In fact, our board-certified, fellowship trained physicians are among only a few in the region using fully arthroscopic surgery for rotator cuff repairs.

We are currently conducting clinical research with respect to arthroscopic rotator repairs. The purpose of this endeavor is to study the biomechanical effectiveness of current instrumentation and techniques to optimize its use, which translates to better outcomes and greater pain relief for patients.
