The Foot and Ankle physicians at Montefiore Medical Center know that countless problems can arise in the structure of bones of the foot and ankle, and are dedicated to providing the proper diagnosis and comprehensive care for every one of them, in order to maximized patients' mobility, and literally get them back on their feet as quickly as possible.
Patients at all stages of life come to us for all types of foot injuries and conditions, ranging from minor ankle sprains to comminuted (multiple) fractures and complex deformities due to diabetes and arthritis. The majority of these problems can be treated non-surgically, with the latest medications, braces, physical therapy, casts, and orthotics. However, if these treatment modalities do not yield the desired outcome or if a patient has suffered severe trauma, surgery may be required to correct the problem.
At Montefiore, we incorporate a multidisciplinary approach to patients' foot and ankle disorders to determine the best possible treatment plan. Our team of board-certified orthopaedic surgeons, podiatrists, musculoskeletal radiologists, physicians' assistants, and a nurse practitioner are specially trained in foot and ankle management, with expertise spanning the entire gamut of conditions and a thorough understanding of each disease and all possible outcomes.
Additionally, we employ state-of-the-art equipment, such as our MRIs, which have a higher magnet quality than most others. This provides better clarity for interpretation, which translates to a more precise diagnosis.

Our laboratory is currently involved in projects to explore proper fracture fixation for diabetics, and how to ultimately improve their outcomes. Clinical trials are underway to determine the optimal outcome of closed treatment of a variety of conditions to assess whether or not certain patients do indeed require a cast. Through these research projects and others we aim to facilitate the recovery and improve the outcome for our patients and those throughout the world.
