Stephen Ferrara, DNP, Receives AANP 2012 New York State Award for Excellence

New York City, NY (September 11, 2012) – Stephen Ferrara, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, Montefiore Medical Center, was awarded the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Award for Excellence for New York State at the 27th Annual National Conference held recently in Orlando, Fla. The State Award for Nurse Practitioner Excellence, founded in 1991, recognizes a nurse practitioner (NP) who demonstrates excellence in practice.

“Dr. Ferrara was selected because he is an expert clinician who effectively incorporates evidence-based guidelines in his doctoral research to improve health outcomes in his patient population,” said Margaret O'Donnell, Southern NYS representative to the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. “He is committed to utilizing cutting-edge technology to educate the public at all levels on the importance of our profession.”

Dr. Ferrara is a senior clinical associate at Montefiore’s Occupational Health Services. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in both Biology and Nursing and has a Master’s degree from Pace University. He recently graduated from the first cohort of Pace University Doctor of Nursing Practice.

The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners is the oldest and largest national professional membership organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties.  Created in 1985, it represents the interests of approximately 155,000 NPs across the country, providing a unified networking platform, and advocating for their role as providers of high-quality, cost-effective, comprehensive, patient-centered and personalized health care.  The organization provides legislative leadership at the local, state and national levels, advancing health policy; promoting excellence in practice, education and research; and establishing standards that best serve NP patients and other health care consumers.
