New York City, NY (February 16, 2012) - Montefiore Medical Center, the University Hospital for Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, is one of the first health care providers in New York State to demonstrate the "Meaningful Use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR)" technology. By deploying GE Healthcare's Centricity* EMR and conforming to "meaningful use" criteria established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Montefiore is enhancing the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care across its inpatient and outpatient settings.

"Achieving meaningful use involves eliminating handwritten prescriptions, using system-wide electronic health records to coordinate the care of every patient at Montefiore and continually monitoring quality measures. It means harnessing the power of information technology to deliver a higher quality of health care," said Jack Wolf, Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Montefiore. "As a longstanding innovator in the design and delivery of health care, Montefiore is positioned to serve as a national model for the use of information technology that elevates standards of care."

Recently, Montefiore was one of 32 health care organizations in the country to be named a Pioneer Accountable Care Organization, the first federally-sponsored accountable care program that incentivizes providers to improve health outcomes while controlling costs. Looking toward the future, Montefiore plans to implement additional information technology solutions towards this end, including expanding secure clinical messaging in support of enhanced patient portal services.

"Montefiore has long been a leader in the use of information technology to advance care, and shares GE Healthcare's vision of using care management tools to improve quality, access and outcomes while controlling healthcare costs," said Jim Corrigan, Vice President and General Manager of GE Healthcare IT, Americas. "We are thrilled that our portfolio of certified EMR solutions is supporting Montefiore's readiness to receive stimulus reimbursements, while continuing to play a key role in its ability to deliver higher-quality care to a large urban community."
