Recognized Clinician and Innovative Researcher to Build on Successes of Urology Department

NEW YORK (February 27, 2014) – Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have named Mark Schoenberg, M.D., professor and university chair of the Department of Urology. Dr. Schoenberg joins from Johns Hopkins Medicine, where he currently serves as The Bernard L. Schwartz Distinguished Professor of Urology and director of Urologic Oncology. He will assume his new position in April 2014.

During Dr. Schoenberg’s 20-year tenure at Johns Hopkins, his clinical practice has centered on the care of patients with all forms of bladder cancer. His research program focused on the translational validation of urinary markers for the early detection of cancer, the development of regenerative medicine solutions to challenges of lower urinary tract reconstruction after bladder removal surgery and the development of minimally invasive therapies for urologic malignancies.

Dr. Schoenberg is an active scholar, writer and editor. He is the past chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, the author of The Guide to Living with Bladder Cancer, co-editor of The Textbook of Bladder Cancer, a contributor to Campbell’s Urology and a seminars editor of the journal Urologic Oncology.

Dr. Schoenberg received his Medical Degree (Alpha Omega Alpha) in 1986 from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center and completed his residency in General Surgery and Urology at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania in 1992. He served as chief resident and urology instructor at HUP in 1992 before completing basic research and clinical urologic oncology fellowships at Johns Hopkins under the auspices of The American Cancer Society.
