Nationally Ranked in Cardiology and Heart Surgery,
Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Diabetes and Endocrinology

NEW YORK (July 16, 2013) – Montefiore Medical Center has been ranked as one of the best hospitals for 2013-2014 in Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Diabetes & Endocrinology, and Neurology & Neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report. Montefiore also is ranked in the top ten best hospitals in New York and the New York City metro area. The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore was nationally ranked for the 2013-14 Best Children’s Hospitals in Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Nephrology and Neurology & Neurosurgery. The annual rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

“Montefiore is proud, once again, to be nationally recognized for our clinical excellence,” said Steven M. Safyer, M.D., president and chief executive officer at Montefiore Medical Center. “Our growing recognition by U.S. News & World Report is a reflection of the exceptional care provided by our physicians, nurses and the entire team as well as our commitment to making a difference in the lives of our patients.”

Montefiore received additional recognition of its high-performance in nine adult specialty areas – Cancer, Ear, Nose & Throat, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Nephrology, Orthopedics, Pulmonology and Urology.

“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. “Just 3 percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty, and only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best.”

The rankings have been published at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in print in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014 guidebook, available in bookstores and on newsstands August 27.
