Over 300 Guests Attended Graduation Celebration at Pelham Country Club

NEW YORK (June 11, 2013) – Resident and fellow graduates from The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) were honored at the 58th annual graduation ceremony along with family, friends and Montefiore faculty who celebrated their achievements at Pelham Country Club. Two Montefiore faculty also received recognitions, nominated by residents, for their outstanding mentorship; Michael Roth, M.D., attending physician, Division of Hematology-Oncology, CHAM and assistant professor of pediatrics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, received the Lewis Fraad M.D., Resident Teaching Award and Hnin Khine, M.D., attending physician, Division of Emergency Medicine, CHAM and associate professor of clinical pediatrics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, was awarded the William Obrinsky Medical Student Teaching Award.

“We are so proud of this talented group of pediatric medical professionals. We congratulate them and their families and wish them success and fulfillment in their professional and personal lives,” said Judy Aschner, M.D., physician-in-chief and Michael I. Cohen, M.D., university chair, Pediatrics, CHAM and professor and chair of pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “We also commend our dedicated faculty for their role in cultivating a new generation of pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists who are poised to be leaders in pediatric healthcare.”

Many of the graduates will continue on in the Montefiore system, seven of the fellows and two residents will join the faculty as attending pediatricians and seven graduates will go on for additional subspecialty fellowship training within Montefiore. Several graduates will join other prestigious medical institutions around the country including The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and New York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.

Montefiore has the second-largest medical residency program in the country, providing postgraduate clinical training to more than 1,250 residents across 89 accredited residency and fellowship programs. In this class 27 graduated from Montefiore’s Pediatric Residency program and 20 graduated from the Pediatric Fellowship program. All had been training at various Montefiore sites throughout the Bronx and lower Westchester.
