Dr. Safyer Testifies at Joint Legislative Hearing on Health Policy and Medicaid

Dr. Safyer recently testified at a Joint Legislative Hearing of the Senate Finance Committee and Assembly Ways and Means Committee.
He described Montefiore's unique role as an academic health system that provides the most advanced quaternary care to its communities in the Hudson Valley and across four counties. He also outlined how the state might address Medicaid payment inadequacy and called for reimbursement reform to improve quality, contain costs and ensure access to care. Two Grants Allow for Enhanced Focus on Early Dementia
Joe Verghese, MBBS, Chief of the Integrated Divisions of Cognitive and Motor Aging, the Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology, and Geriatric Medicine, was awarded two National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants totaling $5 millionto pursue his research into diagnosing cognitive impairment at an early and potentially treatable stage.
