Our Albert Einstein College of Medicine Celebrates its 59th Commencement

Montefiore President and CEO, Steven M. Safyer, MD, introduced the commencement speaker when our Albert Einstein College of Medicine recently conferred 178 MD and 24 PhD degrees to the class of 2017. Eight graduates of Einstein's Medical Scientist Training Program received both an MD and a PhD degree and five individuals were honored with awards from Einstein's Alumni Association.
This year's commencement speaker Tom Frieden, MD, MPH—whose father was a distinguished Montefiore-Einstein cardiologist—is the former is former commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Read more> Watch the Keynote Address>

Save the Date: Urology Grand Rounds
On October 20, 2017, H. Ballentine (Bal) Carter, MD, Urologic Surgeon, Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, will present at Montefiore Urology Grand Rounds.
Dr. Carter is the Director of the Prostate Cancer Program at Johns Hopkins, and has performed more than 3,500 radical prostatectomies globally. Go here for more information.
Expanded Access to Clinical Trials for Minorities: Making Personalized Medicine a Reality.
Joseph A. Sparano, MD, Director, Breast Medical Oncology, Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care is well known for his pioneering research using molecular and genetic profiling for diagnosing and treating breast cancer, lymphoma and HIV-associated cancers. But he is especially proud of his efforts to enroll greater numbers of minorities in cancer clinical trials.
